Montclair High School Football Collection

We are proud to announce that we have digitized and made public more than 200 photos, articles, and game programs from our Montclair High School (MHS) Football collection! These items were donated to the Montclair History Center by Susan Anderson and Robin W. Hodgson.

The MHS Football team was founded near the turn of the 20th century, and has been going strong ever since. In this collection, documents and photos spanning from the 1920s to the 2000s can be found, documenting the history of MHS Football from the early days to the highs under coaches Clary Anderson and Butch Fortunato in the 60s.

A major focus of the collection is on the all-time great coach Clary Anderson. Some photos of his early days, such as him at school or playing a sandlot baseball game are also in the collection. Another focus is many articles and tributes to the greatest Mountie of all time, Aubrey Lewis, who passed in 2001. Also be sure to check out the various programs that we have for games from the mid-1960s.

This is a photo of a sandlot baseball players from the early 1920s. The third player from the left in the first row is a young Clary Anderson. Also note the dog wearing the catcher’s mask!
