In early 2020, the Montclair History Center launched its popular History at Home series to virtually engage the public when in-person programming was not possible. This online initiative is here to stay as its popularity continues to grow! The History at Home programs are offered once a month in the evening where a historian/researcher presents on a topic such as famous residents, local lore, Italian immigrants, African American history, architecture, and more. This past year we reached over 1,800 constituents with a significant impact to Montclair and surrounding communities– even national and international viewership. All programs are free to the public, recorded, and placed onto our YouTube channel that engages 660 subscribers (and rising daily) and saw over 7,500 video views since 2020. The MHC was awarded a 2022 Preservation Service Award by the Montclair Historic Preservation Commission in recognition of this programming initiative for the public.

The Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild will celebrate their 30th Anniversary with a June-July 2025 exhibit in the Crane House and Historic YWCA Museum. The Guild has been exhibiting works with the Montclair History Center for over 20 years. Last year’s exhibit was the first at the Museum since the 2020 shutdown. The Guild’s quilt and artworks celebrate African American heritage, culture and quilting within a space once home to a segregated YWCA for Black women and girls from 1920-1965. Details regarding the 30th anniversary exhibit will be updated in early 2025.
Sponsorship levels include opportunities to underwrite the cost for a two-month quilt show with free public admission, an artist lecture on zoom, and materials costs for quilters to make their works of art.
