History at Home: Montclair Architecture 101 (Part 1)

LIVE ZOOM PRESENTATION

A program for non-architects by non-architects about Montclair architecture.

When you drive through Montclair it’s like a style book on residential architecture has come to life. But is it Federal or Georgian? What’s a Mansard room, jerkinhead, and Palladian window and what do they tell us about when the house was built?

In this program, which focuses on the earliest years of Montclair’s architecture, MHC Trustee Helen Fallon and Executive Director Jane Eliasof tag team talking about historic architectural styles and the identifying features of those styles. We’ll show you how they have been interpreted in houses right here in Montclair.

If you have a home you’ve been puzzling over, send it to Helen or Jane in advance of the program.

This is a two-part program. We begin on February 4 and complete our architectural survey on February 18.

This program takes place at noon and repeats 7 pm
