With sadness, we share the news that the Reverend Oscar Alling Mockridge, III, a good friend, and passionate supporter of the Montclair History Center passed away on April 28, 2017. Oz was ordained a priest in 1965 and served several parishes in the Diocese of Newark. Subsequently, he was a director of homeless shelters in New York City and later counseled the chronically mentally ill.
For Oz, who grew up in Montclair, the history of his hometown was near and dear to his heart. Oz could be found running a meeting of the Board of Trustees, enjoying the music as a special event, or in front of the hearth fireplace sharing his love with others.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne Hallowell Mockridge, who until recently served as the Montclair History Center's president of the Board of Trustees. We share the sorrow of Anne, their son Oscar Alling IV, their daughter Kendall Annable, and five grandsons. The family has requested that contributions be made to SAGE ElderCare, Summit, N.J. or Montclair History Center.
