What did Montclair look like during the height of the Ice Age, about 20,000 years ago? Imagine hundreds of feet of ice covering First Mountain, chilly lakes of meltwater, bobbing icebergs, a frigid gale roaring off a glacier, and now-extinct Ice Age mammals roaming the land. A presentation by Greg Pope, a Montclair State University geoscience professor, will explore this strange prehistoric Montclair landscape with current landscape scenery, maps, and analogous locations. Signs of the Ice Age are still around us, in northern New Jersey, one of the best places to find ancient evidence.
Dr. Greg Pope is Professor and Department Chair at Earth and Environmental Studies at Montclair State University. He has been a faculty member for 25 years. In addition to his interest in glacial geology and climate change, he has ongoing research programs on forest fire impacts, and on conservation of building stone.FREE ZOOM PROGRAM
