History at Home: An Armchair Tour of Rosedale Cemetery

Rosedale Cemetery dates back to the 1840s, when Americans were trying to figure out the best ways to bury the deceased. Local church graveyards, often in the center of towns, were full and people grew concerned about health issues. The Rural Cemetery movement was born and Rosedale is a perfect example. Usually located a few miles out of town and with winding pathways and vistas, they became popular recreation areas as well.

This tour of Rosedale is normally done as a walking tour, but we’re bringing it to you live, via Zoom instead. We’ll talk about grave iconography plus some of the interesting — and notorious — people who are buried there.

This program is also presented live at 7 pm.
