#TBT: The Voyages of Captain James Cook - Postponed

  • Crane House & Historic YWCA 110 Orange Road Montclair, NJ, 07042 United States (map)

In the 1700s, Captain James Cook took to the sea to explore uncharted territory around the world. A British explorer, navigator, and cartographer, he journeyed to Newfoundland, the South Pacific, and Australia. Three of his voyages are recorded on a globe in the Montclair History Center’s collection that was made between 1816 and 1820.

Justin Millet, a Montclair State University history student and intern at the Montclair History Center, has researched Captain Cook’s voyages and will use the antique globe to share his research at this month’s Throwback Thursday program.

Throwback Thursdays take place on the first Thursday of the month. Each month, the Montclair History Center will explore a different history topic -- people, architecture, artifacts, and more. Throwback Thursdays take place in the Founders’ Room of the Crane House &Historic YWCA.

No admission price. Suggested donation of $5.
