Price of Liberty: Matinee at the Library-POSTPONED

  • Montclair Public Library 50 S. Fullerton Ave Montclair, NJ 07042 (map)

POSTPONED. WILL RESCHEDULE AT A LATER DATE.

“One Person One Vote.” Sounds simple, but it’s been elusive in history and still is today.

The Montclair History Center, in partnership with Montclair Film, the Montclair Public Library, and the League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area, will show “Bridge to Freedom: 1965,” as the second film in the Montclair History Center’s annual Price of Liberty Film and Discussion series. The final episode of this six-part series Eyes on the Prize culminates in the fight for voting rights with the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama and the events surrounding the march.

Dr. Lillie Edwards, a Montclair resident, Professor Emerita of Drew University, and member of the Amistad Commission, will provide a contextual overview prior to the film and lead the discussion immediately following. This is the sixth year the Montclair History Center has offered the Price of Liberty Film and Discussion series that each year explores a different aspect of the Black experience. This year, the Price of Liberty series focuses on the history of voter suppression here in the United States.

The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area will sponsor voter registration drives during these programs.

No tickets required. Free admission.
