St. Mark’s United Methodist Church 140th Anniversary Month “Living Our Legacy” presents “A Place to Become.” This event will explore the town and history of life in Montclair through the eyes of women who attended the YWCA. Their stories bring to life a town grappling with de facto segregation, integration, and the Civil Rights movement. A film screening and discussion will be led by Betty Holloway.
Registration is required in advance. Register here.
The Israel Crane House was home to the YWCA for 45 years. Today, the women's stories are told in the Crane House & Historic YWCA. The YWCA used the house for offices, dormitories, and as a social center for African American women until 1965.
