Long before R2-D2 made his screen debut, the idea of a robots as surrogate workers emerged and persisted through history as both a popular culture icon and an engineering goal. Yet the idea of replacing humans with robots create both public anticipation and concern. Dr. Lisa Nocks, historian of science, technology, and media culture and author, discusses the history of robotics at the Shultz House (Evergreens), where Shultz himself was an avid scientist. This free program is part of a series of programs on robotics offered by Montclair State University and funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
